Be curious! Learn a new skill! Your brain is a muscle, use it or LOSE IT! Keeping your brain active by reading a book, doing crossword puzzles, drawing, painting, or even playing cards can help stimulate new nuro connections in the brain.

  1. Get plenty of sleep

Getting a consistent and consecutive 7-8 hours of sleep is essential for brain health. Sleep can clear abnormal proteins from your brain and consolidate and store your memories efficiently. After a good night’s sleep, you’ll never forget where you left the remote.

  1. Stay physically active

Studies show that physically active people are less likely to experience any mental decline. Regular exercise causes an increase in oxygen-rich blood to the region of the brain that is responsible for thought. It’s as easy as walking, gardening, or dancing several times a week.

  1. Connect with your social circle

Did you know that memory loss can come from depression and stress? Keep up with friends and family and engage in social settings to strengthen the health of your brain. Your friends can help lengthen your life and strengthen your brain.

  1. Improve your diet

Consider switching to the Mediterranean diet. It focuses on plant-based proteins, fruits, veggies, fish, and healthy fats such as olive oil. The omega fatty acids found in extra-virgin olive oil increase mental focus and slow mental decline in older adults.
