Let’s take a moment to recognize heart health awareness month. Did you know that nearly 1 in 2 adults have high blood pressure? Yet, only 1 in 4 have it under control.
At Tru, we are dedicated to empowering you to take control of your heart health. Below are 5 strategies you can follow to live a heart-healthy lifestyle.
Know Your Body – Get Regular Screenings 🩺
It is vital to know your health history and get regular screenings of your blood pressure and cholesterol levels. High blood pressure and high cholesterol can damage the heart and blood vessels causing heart disease. The more you know about yourself the easier it is to take steps in the right direction.
Eat A Heart Healthy Diet 🥗
Focus your eating on fruits, vegetables, healthy proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats such as olive oil. Take in less salt, sugar, and saturated fats. It is also important to drink alcohol in moderation (1 or 2 drinks), if at all. Skip the chips, but feel free to splurge on that veggie plate. Your heart will thank you.
Stay Active – Stay Moving 🏃
Regular daily physical activity can lower your risk of heart disease. Ideally, you should aim for about 3 hours of aerobic exercise (like a brisk walk) and 2 or more strength training sessions a week. We know it’s hard to change your schedule around so we suggest you start small. Even 5 minutes of moving can help your heart!
Manage Stress Wisely 🧘♀️
Stress can cause heart issues. On top of that, most people have bad habits when it comes to dealing with stress. Discover healthy ways to deal with stress. Go for a run, try a relaxation exercise, practice some mindful meditations, or try some yoga. Do what works best for you, but leave that tub of ice cream in the fridge.
Don’t Smoke Or Use Tobacco 🚭
Tobacco chemicals can damage the heart and blood vessels, while cigarette smoke lowers oxygen in the blood. This causes your heart to work harder to supply oxygen to the brain and the body. After just one day of quitting your risk of heart disease will go down. You can quit today! We believe in you!
Many of our services aim to support circulation and heart health. Come in today and step inside one of our Hyperbaric Oxygen Chambers, where pressurized oxygen is absorbed by the cells in your body. This creates healthier cells, which then creates healthier tissues, and then creates a healthier heart.
